Working through the Fabric Planning training? This is the place to ask questions, share what you've built, and leave feedback on the exercises.

Whether you're stuck on a specific step, curious about how to apply something to your own data, or have a suggestion for how to improve the training — post it here.

What to include when asking a question:

  • Which exercise you're on (E1 through E10)
  • What you're trying to do and what's happening instead
  • A screenshot if it helps

What we'd love to hear:

  • How long each exercise took you
  • Anything that was unclear or could be explained better
  • How you've adapted what you learned to your own use case

The training guide which contains exercises, data files, and FAQs can be accessed at community.fabricplan.com/training.

If you have a feature request that came up while doing the training, post it on the Ideas board instead. That's where the product team tracks what to build next.

Hi Chandra,

I find the videos published on Lumel quite helpful. I was trying to replicate the example from PowerTable – Video 4: Setting up a Time Tracker.

Since there isn’t a dataset attached to the video that I can use, I generated some dummy data and tried to follow the steps in the video. However, I keep getting an error whenever I change the layout to “Crosstab”. I’ve gone through it multiple times and tried tweaking the table structure, but I still couldn’t get it to work.

Would it be possible for you to share the datasets used in PowerTable Videos 4, 5 and 6 with us? I’d like to follow the videos using the same dataset and replicate the examples as closely as possible.

The videos are:

  1. Setting up a Time Tracker
  2. Project Scheduling with Gantt View
  3. Resource Assignments and Delivery Review

It would be really helpful for me to have the actual datasets so I can follow along and better understand how these examples are built.

Thanks!

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the kind words about the videos, and for sharing the details on what you're working through — really helpful to know.

Just to clarify: the datasets used in Videos 4, 5, and 6 are dummy datasets created purely for demonstration purposes. They don't represent real company data and are intentionally kept simple to keep the focus on the feature being shown. I've attached the dataset here so you can follow along using the same starting point.

Hope that helps!

Hello everyone,

I just finished E4 and read through the E4 FAQ and a question arose:

In the Row Model editor, what is the difference between setting a node Type to "Formula" and setting a node Type to "Data Input" with Default Value "Formula"?

I tried both and neither let me write anything on the row (while n-level rows and aggregated parents work fine). What does default value "Formula" do under "Data Input" when I can't input any data?

Hi MarionB,

We appreciate you taking the time to try out the features and share your questions with us. Thank you for your valuable feedback!

Formula: When a node Type is set to Formula, the node is intended to calculate its value based on the formula defined for it. The value is derived from the formula.

Data Input with Default Value = Formula: When a node Type is set to Data Input and its Default Value is set to Formula, the node is configured as a data input node, with its initial or default value determined by the formula. This combines the data input behavior with a formula-based default. The node's initial value is populated using the formula, but the user can override the displayed value by entering a different value manually.

We will review the behavior of the Data Input node with its Default Value set to Formula and get back to you with an update. Ideally, this configuration should allow users to override the formula-derived value manually.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Kindly bear with us while we validate this behavior.

Thank you for the explanation.

I also noticed a little error in the documentation of E6.
In Step 2. II. it says to create another SQL database when this step is actually about creating a Plan item. It's easy to know form context, just wanted to mention it

Now I'm at E7 and have additional questions.

  1. Where should the Delete Type set-up appear? I tried "All users" and "Specific users" and I could delete the record both times, but I was never asked if I want to Hard Delete or Soft Delete, neither in the Manage Access nor upon deletion
  2. When an automation button triggers an automation, do you always have to refresh the sheet to see the result? I tried it twice and while I got the notification that the automation ran successfully, the sheet looked the same. In "Manage Record" I could see the edit history but only once I clicked refresh at the bottom of the page, did the automated changes actually show up on the sheet. I couldn't find a "Refresh Sheet" action either that does this automatically
