We just published a full breakdown of every update Microsoft announced at FabCon Barcelona, complete with a short demo video for each feature.

Here's what's in this release:

  • Start faster: Connecting a plan to a semantic model now takes a single click. No DMTS connection, no service principal, no tenant settings to configure. If you can build a Power BI report on a model, you can plan on it.

  • Plan at scale: The new Native Planning Engine (Preview), built on Rust and Apache Arrow, handles up to 12 million cells with dependent calculations updating live. Multi-driver, multi-measure simulations let you test price, volume, cost, and headcount changes together before committing to a forecast.

  • Put plans to work: Write plan data back directly into your source semantic model, making it available to Power BI, Copilot, and Data Agents without extra modeling steps. Event Triggers run pipelines, notebooks, and semantic model refreshes automatically when a plan is submitted.

  • Reach the business: Embed Planning Sheets in Power BI organizational apps, share Plan items directly with any user, and invite external partners via Microsoft Entra B2B. No internal accounts are needed.

  • Govern growth: New tenant-level session upgrade controls, row-level security for PowerTable writeback, capacity throttling, and Private Link support (Preview).

  • Known limitations removed: Bulk input now supports up to 10M rows. Power BI Pro and PPU SKUs are now supported. Admin/Build permission on the semantic model is no longer required.
