Date filter: Date slider

A date slider is a dual-ended range slider that lets users drag start and end handles across a timeline.

When to use a date slider:

  • Quick, exploratory visual filtering across a continuous timeline.
  • Adjust ranges dynamically to observe how metrics shift over smooth time intervals.

Configure a date slider#

  1. Add a Super Filter visual.
  2. Assign a date field to the Category bucket. Select More options (...) and ensure that Date is selected. It should not be Date Hierarchy.
  3. In the Super Filter ribbon, select Date Slider from Quick Mode.
  4. Drag the handles to focus on a particular time period.
  1. Select the calendar icon to choose a date range or select from built-in options such as Last Calendar Month, Next Quarter, MTD/YTD/QTD, Last Fiscal Year, and more.

Date slider customizations#

To customize the slider’s appearance, labels, date format, or maximum date, select Properties in the Super Filter ribbon, then navigate to General > Global for individual settings.

1. Default max date

Use Default Max Date to control the maximum end date shown on the slider:

  • Default: Displays the full date range available in your dataset.
  • Today: Caps the slider’s maximum date at the current date. Even if your dataset contains future dates, the slider will not extend beyond today.

2. Fixed label mode

When you turn on the Fixed Label toggle, the selected date values remain in a set location above the slider control.

How it works:

  • Static placement: Labels display permanently at the top-left area above the slider.
  • Integrated calendar picker: A calendar icon appears beside the labels to open a visual date-picker modal.

Best used for:

  • Dashboards where users need a permanent, prominent display of the active date range.
  • Form-based layouts where direct text entry or calendar pickers are preferred over dragging slider knobs.

3. Label Inside Marker Mode

Turn on the Label Inside Marker toggle to embed the date values directly onto the movable slider handles for a compact, integrated look.

Only one label mode can be active at a time. Enabling Label Inside Marker automatically disables Fixed Label, and vice versa.

How it Works

  • Embedded values: The start and end dates are rendered directly inside the slider handles.
  • Dynamic movement: As you drag the handles across the track, the text labels move with them.

Best used for

  • Compact dashboards or sidebars with limited vertical screen space.
  • Interactive filtering where user attention is focused directly on sliding along the track.

4. Slider scale

The Slider Scale toggle adds a ruler-like visual track underneath the slider line, displaying tick marks and date labels along the timeline. To enable this option, in the Super Filter side pane, go to General > Global > Slider Scale.

How it works

  • Visual tick marks: Renders hash marks across the slider track to represent time increments (such as days, months, or years).
  • Date references: Displays key interval dates directly beneath the track to provide immediate visual context.
  • Dynamic adjustment: Scale markings automatically update when changing the underlying slider scale granularity (e.g., switching between day, month, or year scale views).

Best used for

  • Long date ranges: Helps users orient themselves when navigating multi-year or multi-month spans.
  • Visual alignment: Ideal when users need to align slider handles to specific intervals without relying solely on numerical input boxes.

4. Fixed interval

The Fixed Interval option locks your selected date window (e.g., 30 days or 90 days) so you can slide the entire time frame forward or backward without changing its duration.

Instead of manually resetting both the start and end dates every time, the window stays the exact same size, making it easier to compare identical time blocks side by side (like comparing quarter-to-quarter or month-to-month).

To enable this option, in the Super Filter side pane, go to General > Global > Fixed Interval.

When you move the slider, the start and end dates change but the configured interval or that difference between that start and end dates remains constant.
