Build multi-measure charts

Multi-measure charts let you visualize multiple metrics together using the most suitable chart type for each measure. Analyze correlations and performance in a single, unified view.

Why use multiple chart types in one visual?#

When measures live on different scales, using a single chart type or axis cannot capture the full picture-#

Dashboards can have various types of data on different scales. If one measure ranges from 0–100 and another from 0–1,000,000, plotting them the same way will flatten the smaller one. Using different chart types or axes preserves proportion.

Charts represent different behaviours, for example,

  • Counts and totals are best visualized with bars or columns
  • Trends over time can be plotted with lines or areas

How to assign a specific chart type to a measure?#

Use the Series button in the Home ribbon to change the chart type. Select the chart from the dropdown for each measure as demonstrated in the video. You can then customize the appearance of each chart from the Canvas Settings pane.
